Matt Baker to judge YFC scarecrows as part of national campaign

TV presenter Matt Baker will judge The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs’ (NFYFC) Scarecrow Challenge as part of National Young Farmers’ Week 2025.

Young Farmers’ Clubs have been challenged with creating a scarecrow scene in their community to promote the positive impact they make on the local area.

The scarecrows are intended to be a visible reminder of the contribution Young Farmers make to their rural communities and to British agriculture.

Clubs are asked to create the scarecrows in time for National Young Farmers’ Week, which is from 6-10 October 2025. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness about YFC and encourage more young people to get involved in their local club.

This year’s campaign theme, YFC Makes a Difference, celebrates the role YFC plays in rural communities and the countryside.

Matt, who was President of NFYFC from 2011-13, said he was looking forward to judging the entries.

"National Young Farmers week is a fantastic opportunity to promote how young farmers clubs make a difference in our rural communities.

“Building a scarecrow scene is a brilliant way to make an impact as like young farmers scarecrows are truly iconic characters of our countryside!

“So go for it, don't hold back and make them as fun, entertaining, and eye-catching as I know you will. I can't wait to see and judge them!"

Clubs are asked to share photos on social media during National Young Farmers’ Week of their scarecrow displays using the hashtag #YFCMakesADifference. All entries must be submitted by 8am on Friday 10 October, when a winner will be chosen by Matt.
