Safeguarding Awareness Training

Online Safeguarding Awareness Training for Club Officers

Every club officer involved in a Young Farmers’ Club in England and Wales is required to take a mandatory online safeguarding awareness training course.

The aim of the course is to ensure all club officers can establish and apply safeguarding practices in their club and county.

The course is bespoke to YFC and case studies are based on real-life examples, so that it feels relevant to those involved in running their club.

The course aims to give club officers confidence that they have done everything they can to prevent a situation from occurring or know how to manage a situation and where to seek further help.

By the end of the course, club officers should:

  • Understand what safeguarding is
  • Be able to create a safeguarding culture in the club where members are safe and feel able to express concerns.
  • Know their responsibilities about keeping members safe
  • Feel confident and equipped to deal with issues and know where to seek help.

A club officer’s role involves putting procedures in place to prevent harm, ensure safety and to be alert to any concerning behaviour and to report it. They are not required to investigate concerns or be a safeguarding expert.

Club officers are part of a wider safeguarding network, including the county office, the officer team, the committee, presidents, NFYFC and external organisations such as local safeguarding boards, social care, the police and the NSPCC.
