Heart of YFC Award winner 2023

Winner: Tom Retallick, Cornwall

Tom's YFC journey is an inspiring one of growth and leadership. He served as Chair of St Columb YFC and subsequently became Cornwall’s County Chair, a role for which he has been praised highly.

Tom is dedicated to YFC and strives to showcase the opportunities to more young people, emphasising the life skills that can be gained.

He organised Cornwall YFC’s WotNot fundraising challenge, where 50 members embarked on a 100-mile journey across Scotland in just five days. The event raised an impressive £17,000 for three local charities, demonstrating Tom's leadership and his ability to motivate fellow members.

As County Chair, Tom took charge of Cornwall YFC's social media, recognising its importance in engaging new and younger members. His efforts have made the Facebook and Instagram pages more appealing to potential new members.

Events organised under Tom's leadership, like the Royal Cornwall Show marquee, not only engaged existing YFC members but also attracted potential members and raised awareness of YFC with the wider public.

In addition to leadership and organising events, Tom also knows how to have fun. He participated in this year's cabaret competition, contributing to an act that revolved around the theme of COVID-19 and working from home.

The Heart of YFC winner is voted on by the YFC community and Tom received the largest percentage of the votes. He exemplifies what a passionate and committed YFC member is all about, emphasising the diverse opportunities YFC offers for personal development and growth. Tom is a true ambassador for YFC.

We shortlisted Tom because of his passion for YFC and his dedication to promoting what can be achieved through the organisation. The YFC community clearly agreed that Tom demonstrated the YFC values of fun, learning and achievement.
