YFC is for Everyone: Neurodivergence and disabilities

How YFC welcomes and includes people who are neurodivergent and disabled

At NFYFC, we work hard to ensure our clubs, activities and events are accessible to all and aim to remove barriers people may face if they have a disability, including neurodivergent people.

Young Farmers’ Clubs are advised to work with the person who has a disability, and parents/carers where appropriate, to understand their individual needs.

By listening to and understanding a person’s needs, a support plan can be put in place so everyone is clear and confident about the actions that need to be taken. By taking this person-centered approach, it will allow all members to have equal access to all opportunities and activities.

YFCs must make reasonable adjustments for disabled members. This is not only a legal requirement but also because we believe YFC is for Everyone and all young people should have the same opportunities to be involved.

Our events, training and competitions programme can all be adapted to ensure all members can participate and belong to YFC.

NFYFC’s Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) policy is available to download for further details, and our Additional Needs Support Plan, which sets out the full guidance for YFCs.
