To celebrate 90 years of Dyffryn Tanat YFC, the club has promised to deliver 90 acts of kindness throughout the membership year. Chair Elin Lewis came up with the idea as a way to give back to the local community and club member Hannah Morris explains more about their initiative.
Elin brought the idea to club and we all thought it was a good way to give back to our community who are an important part of our Young Farmers’ Club. We recognise the importance of organisations and groups in our rural area in encouraging all ages to get involved and socialise.
Our acts of kindness started by helping to make the local park safe to open to the public again.
Other acts have included mowing and strimming around the local bowling green and cleaning the cenotaph in preparation for Remembrance Day.
Some of our members helped clean around the village hall and cleared out the gutters in our church.
We have helped serve refreshments at a Harvest supper and a local Plygain [a traditional Welsh Christmas service]. Members helped put up the village Christmas tree and stewarded at Welshpool’s illuminated tractor run.
We found handing out 250 mince pies to local people extremely rewarding. It was a lovely way to reach out to the elderly and spread the festive spirit.
The club has found it incredibly rewarding. We feel it has been an important way of reminding others of the power of simply lending a helping hand.
The importance of these acts has already become clear as we have heard back from people we have helped to tell us the difference we’ve made. It’s been great to be able to give back to our community.
