In just his first year with Thrapston Young Farmers’ Club, Max has made a big impact.
Joining in October, Max wasted no time diving into club and county activities. From Public Speaking and Tug of War to national Cookery competitions, he embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm. His commitment was especially evident in the lead-up to the county rally, where he attended every Tug of War training session, balancing YFC with other sporting commitments.
Max’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed. At the club’s AGM, he was elected Junior Coordinator – an uncommon achievement for a first-year member. His leadership and reliability have made him a trusted figure among younger members.
“I support the juniors, helping them with anything they need,” Max shared. “Any member can come to me with concerns or ideas, and I’ll pass them on to the panel.”
Club leaders describe Max as “a brilliant member of Thrapston, and an asset to the club,” and affectionately, “a good egg.” Socially, he’s formed strong friendships and become a role model for under-18s, demonstrating maturity, teamwork, and a can-do attitude.

Max’s own reflections on joining reveal a positive experience, one he wishes more people knew about.
“My first YFC meeting was laser tag. Everyone was so welcoming – I knew YFC was a place for me,” he said. “I wish more people knew what YFC is really like. I’d always heard about Young Farmers but never had the courage to go. I’m so glad I did.”
One of his standout memories is the county rally, where his team won first place in national Cookery and advanced to the national final.
“There were just memories made throughout the whole day,” he recalled.
Max’s leadership aspirations are already taking shape. Encouraged by last year’s Junior Coordinator, he stepped into the role with confidence.
“Everyone told me I could go on to a county role from there, and I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make my way into the panel,” he said. “I’ve even been told by our current county chair that he wants me to be county chair one day.”
The judges of the New Member of the Year category, which included farmer Michael Nixon were equally impressed:
Michael said: “We really enjoyed meeting Max and found it surprising this was only his first year in YFC. He was confident, enthusiastic, and inspiring. We loved his can-do attitude and could see why he’d been elected to be a Junior Coordinator so early on.”
As Max continues his journey with YFC, one thing is clear – Max is not just a new member; he’s a future leader.
Well done Max.

It’s rare for a YFC member to take on a leadership role in their first year – but when Melton YFC urgently needed a new Club Chair, Thomas stepped up. Despite being new to the organisation, he committed himself to learning quickly and guided the club through a successful year.
Over the past year, Thomas has devoted himself to YFC life, attending every meeting and ensuring Melton is well represented at County events. His confidence has grown enormously – he can now chair meetings with ease and address a room full of people. Though new to Young Farmers, Thomas has proved himself a natural leader, giving his time, energy, and passion selflessly to the organisation.
