Lionel Hill MBE 1937-2026

Lionel Hill MBE 1937-2026

It is with great sadness that NFYFC shares the news that former NFYFC President, Lionel Hill MBE, passed away on Friday 10 April.

Our thoughts are with Lionel’s family and friends at this difficult time, and also with the members, supporters and alumni of Worcestershire FYFC, where Lionel was a lifelong and much‑loved supporter.

Lionel was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in Her Majesty The Queen’s New Year Honours in 2002, in recognition of his outstanding commitment and long service to Young Farmers’ Clubs. Most notably, he played a pivotal role in the acquisition and development of the Shires Farm site for Worcestershire YFC’s county office, an achievement of which he was both justifiably and tremendously proud.

He first joined Belbroughton YFC at the age of 16 and went on to serve as NFYFC President from 2006 to 2011, succeeding His Majesty King Charles III, then Prince of Wales. During his presidency, Lionel dedicated an immense amount of time and energy to the Federation, travelling widely to visit county events across England and Wales. He was deeply passionate about seeing YFC members thrive, achieve, and enjoy all that YFC has to offer.

Across decades of service, Lionel supported generations of YFC members in Worcestershire and far beyond, offering wisdom, encouragement and friendship to countless individuals throughout his lifetime.

He will be greatly missed by many. NFYFC is deeply grateful for the years of dedication Lionel gave to the organisation and for the lasting impact he made in helping to shape YFC into what it is today.
