Did you know that at least 120,000 tonnes of edible produce is left unharvested on British farms each year?
Not because it isn’t good food, but often because of market constraints, labour shortages, or logistical challenges, but this unused surplus is the equivalent of around 300 million meals that could feed people experiencing hunger.
Food redistribution charity, The Felix Project have been working in the primary production sector since 2020. Over the past two years, they’ve mobilised over 2,200 volunteers to date to glean over 200 tonnes of would-have-been-wasted plum, apples and pears and redistribute this fresh and nutritious fruit out to those in need, winning the Waste Not Want Not award for this work at the 2024 Grocer Awards.
In partnership with their UK-wide partner, Fareshare, they are now looking to do more – and would love to hear from you!
Choose from two free-to-join events that will gather fresh produce farmers and industry influencers to showcase this work and get more of you involved.
It will be a chance to meet the farmers they work with, hear the societal benefits to both their volunteer gleaners and community orgs, as well as get an update on their policy work.
