Meet the five finalists for the Heart of YFC Award 2026. The winner of this award is chosen by a combination of judges' scores and votes from the YFC community.
The judges have interviewed the finalists and awarded points and these will be combined with an online vote. The person with the highest number of votes, will receive the highest score in descending order. These scores will be combined with the judges' scores to find our winner.
Voting for the Heart of YFC winner is open until 18 September 2026. The winner will be announced on 12 December 2026.
Swaffham YFC, Norfolk
Over more than a decade Ben has held numerous roles at club, county, area and national level, including Club Treasurer and Chair, County Chair and Treasurer, Eastern Area Chair, and Vice Chair of the national Membership Steering Group.
As a funeral director with no farming background, Ben champions the message that “you don’t have to be a farmer to be a young farmer”, encouraging inclusivity and ensuring members’ voices are heard at every level.
Alongside his leadership responsibilities, he delivers training, supports county events, organises activities for members, provides invaluable IT and marketing support, and is always willing to help others make the most of their YFC experience. Widely respected for his calm, organised and approachable nature, Ben’s commitment has helped shape Norfolk YFC and his efforts are extending across the Federation.
Alberbury YFC, Shropshire
Eadie has been the driving force behind the revival and growth of Alberbury YFC. A member for almost five years and currently serving as Chair, she stepped up when the club faced an uncertain future, helping transform attendance from just a handful of members to more than 25 regular attendees each week.
Through her determination, creativity and leadership, she has organised successful events, including the club’s first Dinner Dance attended by over 100 people, and spearheaded fundraising initiatives that have raised almost £5,000 for charity. Coming from a non-farming background herself, Eadie is passionate about creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where every member feels valued and encouraged to take part. Her support has inspired members of all ages to step outside their comfort zones, from public speaking and entertainment competitions to community fundraising challenges.
Eadie has created a safe and supportive club culture while ensuring young people have opportunities to learn, grow and thrive.
Pontsian YFC, Ceredigion
Gwenyth has been the heart of Pontsian YFC and Ceredigion for the past 18 years, dedicating her time, passion and leadership to supporting members and strengthening the Federation at every level. Having held almost every major club role, including Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, she has consistently led by example, championing opportunities, confidence building and community spirit.
Now serving as County Ambassador, Gwenyth proudly represents YFC across her county and beyond, inspiring members to embrace new experiences and make the most of everything the organisation offers. Her impact extends far beyond her own club. From organising successful charity initiatives, including major fundraising events for mental health, healthcare and community causes, to helping secure funding opportunities that benefit clubs across the county.
Gwenyth embodies the values of YFC and has left a lasting legacy on both her community and the wider organisation.
Thorngumbauld YFC, East Riding of Yorkshire
Katie has devoted 18 years to Young Farmers, and is credited with the success and survival of Thorngumbald YFC. From her early days as a junior member and multiple-time Junior Member of the Year, she has gone on to hold numerous leadership positions, including Secretary, Chair, County Vice Chair and more recently Vice President of the club.
When Thorngumbald YFC faced closure, Katie stepped forward and led its revival, transforming it into the largest club in East Riding and helping it achieve its first local rally victory in almost 20 years.
Katie has championed member wellbeing, mental health awareness and charitable fundraising throughout her membership. She has organised events, supporting organisations including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and local mental health charity Ruben’s Voice, where she also became a trustee.
Katie has created a safe, welcoming and supportive environment that has inspired countless members.
Ashbourne YFC, Derbyshire
Rob has made a big impact on Derbyshire YFC since returning just three years ago. Stepping into leadership when his home club faced a shortage of senior members, he took on the role of Chair while also serving as County Vice Chair, helping to rebuild confidence, participation and opportunities for younger members. Through his enthusiasm and encouragement, more members have become involved in competitions, county activities and leadership roles, creating a strong foundation for the future.
Rob has organised and supported fundraising initiatives, promoted the organisation across the county and contributed to projects raising awareness of neurodiversity in YFC. Open about his own experiences with ADHD, he has used his journey to inspire others and champion a more inclusive environment.
Respected for his positivity, humility and commitment to supporting members, Rob has helped strengthen not only his own club but the wider YFC community across Derbyshire.
