The NFYFC Fence Erecting Competition, sponsored by EstateWIRE, offers young farmers a platform to demonstrate their skills in building a stock-proof fence. Teams of three, all aged 28 or under, will showcase their ability to plan, budget, and construct a fence using traditional tools. The competition tests practical expertise in handling materials, using hand tools, and working efficiently as a team. Participants must build a 30-meter fence, following specific guidelines, including a box strainer assembly and precise wire tensioning.
This competition not only sharpens essential farming skills but also encourages teamwork and problem-solving under pressure. The National Final will take place on July 4 2026 at the County Showground in Stafford, where teams from across the UK will compete for the prestigious EstateWIRE National Farm Skills Challenge Cup.
