Club Officer check-in: 5 Minutes with...Sam Pritchard, Raglan YFC

Chair of Raglan YFC Sam Pritchard is focused on ensuring his 57 members get the most out of YFC and enjoy it as much as he has in his eight years as a member.

Why did you want to take on a role in your club?

To help continue the club's competitive and very sociable reputation ensuring members always have something to look forward to.

I also have been in a role as Treasurer for four years and enjoy managing the club's accounts

What are your main responsibilities in the role?

My main responsibilities include planning, troubleshooting, and encouraging members to get stuck in.

How do you balance your club duties with your personal/professional life?

I keep my Wednesdays as designated YFC nights and try to include YFC into my social life. I work flexible hours so find it convenient to organise YFC at all hours of the day.

Tell us about a top skill you've developed through this role?

Some top skills I have learnt are troubleshooting, public speaking, organising and planning.

How is your club structured?

We structure our meetings to cater for all ages and interests. Often doing an activity such as bowling, canoeing, BBQs, and farm tours, with seniors inevitably congregating in a pub at the end of the night.

How does your club recruit and welcome new members?

We host a yearly new member night as well as keeping the local communities informed of our activities through social media.

How does your club plan its programme?

We plan our big group outings in advance but like to fill in weeks with spontaneous rounders or games’ nights.

What's a challenge you have faced as a young leader?

Enticing people to come along to business meetings – often trying to bribe them with pancakes or a quick dodgeball social post meeting.

What one tip would you give to others in a similar role to you?

Make YFC as fun and enjoyable as possible.
