Maisie Howe is the Club Secretary for Kelmarsh YFC supporting more than 50 members. Maisie shares how she has grown in confidence since joining the club committee at a young age.
I wanted to help support the club and be part of the decision making . This is my second year as Secretary and I have previously been Treasurer and a general committee member.
To organise the club so it runs as smoothly as possible.
I balance my role by being as organised as possible and delegating tasks to other committee members, as I am also busy in my role as a student children's nurse.
My confidence in public speaking has grown massively.
Our club is structured by having meetings that cater for all age groups our youngest members here at Kelmarsh are 14 years old.
We used social media to advertise our new members’ evening which was a huge success as we welcomed so many new faces. We all made sure we were super friendly and shared information.
We plan our programmes in our monthly committee meetings and one of the best meetings I've organised has been the Christmas meal with our local pub which was a huge success.
Starting in a committee at a young age and being able to confidently say your opinion even though you may have less experience than a more senior member.
Be confident and seek advice if you need it. I have found the support from Kathryn our County Secretary to be very useful in helping me fulfil my role to the best of my ability.
