As Chair of Brigg & District YFC in Lincolnshire, Joe Elletson has had to learn a lot quickly as he’s only been involved in YFC for two years. He quickly took on a role to help save the club, which now has 56 members.
The club was falling into heavy decline in 2024. I became Vice Chair in 2024-25 to try and rejuvenate the membership and establish external financial support for the club.
My main responsibilities include supporting and harnessing inclusivity across all levels of my club and managing a good relationship with Lincolnshire County Federation of YFC.
It has helped to strengthen my leadership abilities and improve my punctuality.
Young Farmers has really helped improve my confidence in Public Speaking and sharing the voice of my members.
Our club meets weekly on a Monday night, and we have an inclusive approach involving all ages to take part in a range of activities.
My club has two extremely efficient programme secretaries that have developed strong and dependable relationships across the county with clubs, businesses, and charity groups.
One of our most successful meetings was a tour around a local AD Plant, where attendance totalled 56 members and three advisory members.
We use our newly established social media platforms, and also through local colleges and schools.
I have faced several challenges in the early stages of developing my relationship with the County Federation. I would regularly meet with members that were around 10 years older than me.
Stay persistent. Always remember you're one voice speaking on behalf of all your members. Young Farmers is about establishing lifelong friendships and creating affordable and inclusive opportunities for everyone.
