Club Officer check-in: 5 Minutes with...George Webb, Rearsby YFC

Rearsby & District YFC Chair George Webb has been involved in YFC for five years and is now leading 50 members involved in this Leicestershire club.

Why did you want to take on a role in your club?

To make a difference. I want to help encourage our members to learn new skills YFC has to offer.

What are your main responsibilities in the role?

My main responsibilities in my role are keeping the club running and organising weekly meetings.

How do you balance your club duties with your personal/professional life?

I have set days when I sit down after work to attend meetings, organise events and work with my fantastic committee. They have certain roles, so nobody is doing everything to keep the club running.

Tell us about a top skill you've developed through this role?

Always saying yes to take part in events, you will learn something new every time you do things.

How is your club structured?

As a club we try to get all of our members together so nobody is left out.

How does your club recruit and welcome new members?

Our first meeting in September is New Members' night, where we can welcome new members by doing different activities throughout the evening to get to know our current members.

How does your club plan its programme?

I have a fantastic team of programme secretaries. They work throughout the year organising our club meetings for the YFC year.

What's a challenge you have faced as a young leader?

The biggest challenge I faced as a young leader is making myself heard at meetings. To overcome it you have to keep making yourself heard and you'll get the hang of it!

What one tip would you give to others in a similar role to you?

Always say yes to an opportunity – you'll love it!
