The community work isn’t just charity based – the club helps out in many different ways. Back in June some members and officials helped Menter Cwm Gwendraeth Elli to do a project for young people. The club also supports the local school, where we meet on Tuesday evenings.
We raised £3,991.82 for our charity of the year Help Iwan Walk in 2023-2024.
Iwan’s family have been involved in the club since it first started in 1971 and still support each event we hold. Sadly, Iwan was unable to walk after being involved in a car accident. Due to the high costs of the physio Iwan needed, the family started a charity to help provide the support Iwan needed. The club wanted to help them and Iwan so he could work towards his goal of walking again. Two years on from the accident and Iwan has managed to walk again.
The club held many events to raise funds, such as a tractor run, Noson Lawen (entertainment evening) with over 200 people attending, bingo for over 100 people, carol singing and a harvest thanksgiving service.
The club turns 53 this year and the past few years have been exciting. Looking back to when the club started in 1971 with only around 15 members, to now having 61 members, we’ve gone from strength to strength.
The club is always giving to the community and truly shows what being a part of the YFC family really means.
It’s the best club for giving things a go. They might not always come first but they don’t let that bother them.
Being Club of the Month also gives us a chance to thank our two founder members Mr Eurwyn Jones and Mr Gwynoro Jones, whom we sadly lost two years ago, for starting a club that shows the farming community at its best and for creating one big family. It will mean a lot to every member and to the wider club family.
