Recent activities we have held

Our club is a small, but mighty club, that is slowly rising from the ashes post-Covid – after a hairy couple of years with single digit membership! We have grown our small club to signing up 25 members, all of which are extremely engaged each week and turn up to all our club meets. They always go above and beyond where fundraising events are concerned.

We recently held an Auction of Promises, which raised £4,800, and entered two local carnivals.

This year 10 members attended the county rally (an increase on the three that went the previous year!) We came away with a trophy for the club that is most encouraging to their team members’ competing and well turned out. This was testament to our members’ teamwork, friendship and commitment!

Competitions we enjoy

As a club with lots of younger members we are working hard on encouraging them to enter more competitions. After taking part in the County Rally this year, it was clear that the more active and sporty competitions were the favourites!

Our work in the community

We have held multiple fundraising events this year – including three new ones which members wanted (a road run, a duck race and an Auction of Promises). Our auction which was held at the beginning of September managed to raise £4,800, which was made possible through donations from members and the time and effort they took asking businesses for donations.

Off the back of these achievements it looks as if Warleggan YFC can donate a record amount to charities this year at our AGM on the 2 October (£4,000 to each charity – £8,000 in total).

We always engage with the community through our fundraising efforts and they always show up to support us. We like to give back to our community where we can, so always offer a hand when we’re approached.

We recently entered two local carnivals and came first place in both carnivals for our float, which was a fantastic achievement. One of the carnivals was in a large town, so for a small group of individuals from a little village to go out and put on a show in front of so many people was incredible, let alone winning first place!

Why we are Club of the Month

The fundraising efforts and trophies that we have won this year are testament to how driven our members are, and how they show the best of YFC. All our members set a fantastic example for the federation.

Our club has a reputation for being extremely friendly and welcoming, we have just held our new members’ evening and welcomed three new members.

Judges' comments

Well done to Warleggan YFC in Cornwall for all you are doing to encourage new members and build confidence in your younger members. We were impressed by the fundraising activities and the amount raised. We also liked that you were continually pushing for more involvement with your County and we hope that this pays off with more members enjoying the competitions programme in the future.

If you would like to be Club of the Month for October, please email media@nfyfc.org.uk by 20 October 2023.
