Our recent activities:

We recently competed at our County Rally, hosted by Berwick YFC, who also hosted the Northern Area Competitions Day, which was very well supported by our members. As a club, we have enjoyed a range of social activities, including a social night, a rural crime awareness talk delivered by the police, and a bowling evening.

Northumberland YFC has also introduced a monthly “Pub of the Month” initiative, hosted by a different club each month, providing a great opportunity for members to meet, socialise, and strengthen connections across the county.

Competitions we enjoy:

YFC offers the chance to take part in a huge variety of competitions throughout the year, ranging from Public Speaking to stockjudging, rounders, and much more. Our members are always keen to get involved and support one another across all disciplines. A particular highlight this year was our Tug of War success, with all three of our teams qualifying through the first round and earning places in the final on Rally Day.

Our community support:

As a club, we are passionate about supporting our local community. Our club plays an important role in bringing together the farming community and providing young people with opportunities to develop skills, build friendships, and meet new people.

We held a 24-hour charity clipping day to raise funds for three charities, including the Northumberland County Federation, helping to support and develop local Young Farmers’ Clubs.

The previous year, we also organised a charity clipping day that raised funds for a local primary school. Throughout the year, we have provided bar services at private functions, generating valuable funds for the club and enabling us to make donations to local charities and community causes.

Why we deserve Club of the Month:

I'm incredibly proud of what Cambo YFC members achieved at the end of June.

Cambo YFC, alongside members from across Northumberland, took on the huge challenge of a 24-hour sheep clipping event to raise money for Northumberland YFC, The Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) and Cancer Research.

Despite extreme heat and the sheer scale of the task, the event continued for 26 hours, with more than 2,600 sheep clipped.

The commitment went far beyond the event itself, with members spending countless hours beforehand and afterwards transporting and sorting sheep at Hexham Mart.

With over £10,000 raised so far and donations still coming in, this was a fantastic team effort that showcased the dedication, community spirit and hard work of our members. We're delighted with the impact the event has had and hope to make it an annual fundraiser in the future.

The judges' comments

Cambo YFC are clear winners this month. The club has demonstrated outstanding commitment to both its members and the wider community, delivering a fantastic charity event that raised an impressive amount for worthy causes.

Alongside their fundraising success, the club has maintained a busy and varied programme of activities, with strong participation in competitions, successful representation at County Rally, and all three Tug of War teams reaching the Rally Day finals.

Cambo YFC is an active, and community-focused club that continues to make a positive impact both within and beyond YFC. Well done everyone.
