Name:

Kent Estuary, Cumbria

Number of members:

70

Where we meet:

We meet every Wednesday night at The Gilpin Bridge Inn, Levens. If we’re not there, we are out playing sports, having tours of local businesses and going on trips!

Social media profiles:

You can follow Kent Estuary YFC on Facebook and Instagram:

Recent activities we have held:

Recently we entered the Pantomime competition with our version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and placed third at Northern Area.

The cast had members with ages from 12-28 and everyone worked so hard to make it a great performance. We haven’t entered since 2017 and as Club Chair I couldn’t be prouder of us all.

Competitions we enjoy:

We enter all competitions available to us but our passion is with Public Speaking and personal development. Last year, I (Rosie Parsons) won the NFYFC Senior Situations Vacant competition and Ben Handley placed third in the Intermediate category of the competition.

This year we have Chloe Dawson through to nationals for Senior Situations Vacant and we're wishing her all the best!

Our juniors are taking Public Speaking in their stride and developing their skills in Junior Public Speaking, Junior Reading and even Brainstrust, which is amazing.

Our work in the community:

We like to help our local community and have recently completed walling for a local parish council.

We also hired Witherslack Village Hall in March for our annual Big Breakfast event which sees many locals coming to support and meet us.

Why we are Club of the Month:

The club has worked so hard since October 2024 to organise an Auction of Promises to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) in south Cumbria.

We held the auction on Saturday 5 April at Kendal Rugby Club and raised over £9,000 for the charity! We had 35 auction lots which included a days shooting, night in a glamping pod, a sports car for a weekend, many meal vouchers and donations from local businesses. We also had a raffle of 20 fantastic prizes such as hampers, local produce and more vouchers. The club has really pulled together to make this happen and we had 120 people there on the night to support us. The £9000 donation to charity shows the amazing work and generosity of YFC.

Thank you to everyone who supported our event and made it such a success and well done to Kent Estuary YFC for all our hard work in making it a great evening.

This shows what YFC is all about and how generous and amazing our members are.

The judges' comments

Kent Estuary raised an outstanding amount of money for charity this month. Their success is testament to how hard they worked in organising this event – from the great range of generous auction prizes to the promotional work to encourage more than 100 people to attend on the night. It wasn't just one night either – the planning has been going on since last October, and has involved everyone in the club. Well done Kent Estuary YFC.
