The YFC Supporter of the Year Award celebrates the people or organisations who support the YFC community. These are the people who have helped to make a difference to YFC members, a YFC Club, a County Federation or NFYFC.
Three judges chose our five finalists for this year's award and we will find out at the Awards ceremony on 3 November 2023 who is the winner.
Cornwall
The support Andrew has given to YFC over four decades is invaluable. He not only stewards and judges YFC competitions but he has also provided a venue to host them. He holds a position on many committees in the county and has taken on a lead role supporting the county office and its staff team. Andrew's passion for Cornwall YFC is evident, helping the County to thrive as well as the young people involved in it.
Cumbria
A national YFC Travel exchange first introduced Matthew to YFC in 1991. When he moved to England a few years later, he threw himself into Cumbria YFC life! Affectionately called Taz, due to his Tasmanian roots, the judges were impressed with how much he had supported the county, despite never being a full member due to his age. He has raised funds, saved a club from closure and dedicated his time to YFC.
Northumberland
Described as a stick of rock, with YFC running through the middle, Lesley has given more than four decades of service to Northumberland County Federation. The judges were impressed with Lesley's commitment to offering advice and guidance when called upon – which appears to be often! She continues to help at county events and her support during the pandemic was valued by the county and she should be recognised for all she's achieved.
Radnor
Described as an inspiration to members and a true ambassador, Gaynor has been involved in YFC for more than 40 years. The judges loved Gaynor's enthusiasm for developing members' skills and for still putting in lots of time to help YFC, even when she faces her own challenges. She can often be found helping at Radnor’s County Office before the rally and entertainments competitions. Gaynor encourages members from her club Dolau YFC, as well members in Radnor YFC, to always do their best and have fun.
Cumbria
Westmorland County Agricultural Society has played a key role in the development of Cumbria County Federation and its members for the past 80 years. Their generosity in supporting the county with venues, office space, training, equipment, competitions and grants for members is recognised as invaluable by the county and the judges.
The 2022 winner of the YFC Supporter of the Year Award was Michael Bailey from Hampshire FYFC.
