Farmers campaign against Budget announcements

Farmers campaign against Budget announcements

Announcements made in the autumn Budget, including tax changes and wage increases, have caused concern among young farmers and the wider farming community.

These significant changes will impact the next generation of farmers. NFYFC’s YFC AGRI Chair has spoken out on this topic with a statement that was shared with the media, Government and MPs. Read the statement here.

NFYFC is working with many industry and government groups at the highest levels, contacting MPs, gathering information from the YFC AGRI group and NFYFC has also been a co-signatory on open letters to the Treasury from MPs.

Two events are also being planned in London on 19 November 2024 to show a united front against the recent Budget announcements.

The NFU is organising a lobby event involving NFU members meeting with their MPs. Due to high interest, the NFU tripled the capacity for NFU members’ attendance to 1,800, and all of these spaces are now full. More information from the NFU is available here.

In addition, an independently coordinated rally is also being organised for the same day by a group of well-known farmers, including Olly Harrison from Merseyside.

The event will use the hashtags #WeJustWantToFeed you and #SaveFamilyFarms across social media and is inviting attendees to bring British produce to create a mass food bank donation.

The rally is intended to complement the NFU’s lobby event and is for participants to peacefully and respectfully form a procession to Parliament Square.

Register for the event

Organisers are asking those intending to come to London for the rally to register for the event so they can keep the police informed of numbers. Register here.

One of the key organisers Olly Harrison released a video update on 13 November 2024 to share more details about timings and confirm the location.
