Discounted sheep shearing training for YFC members

Discounted sheep shearing training for YFC members

YFC members can save 50% on shearing training with British Wool, thanks to a long-standing partnership between The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) and British Wool.

This will be the seventh year British Wool has worked with NFYFC to offer the discount, which is available to all YFC members, regardless of experience or previous training.

YFC members, affiliated to NFYFC, can save 50% on British Wool machine and blade shearing courses for the duration of their membership.

These courses will be delivered over two days in all regions of the UK, covering all the essential aspects of achieving a successful shearing season, including the use of shearing equipment and hands-on shearing practice to develop your technique.

Participants will receive hands-on practical tuition in small groups, typically with a ratio of one instructor to four participants, allowing them to develop their technique as well as receiving guidance on animal welfare, the use of shearing equipment, and staying safe in the shearing shed.

Course fees

The courses cost £220 (plus VAT) but after the exclusive YFC discount, members will only pay £110 (plus VAT) if they register before 31 March 2025.

Richard Schofield, Shearing Manager at British Wool, said:

“British Wool and the YFC have worked together now for several years on different projects. This incentive is the best so far, giving members the opportunity to attend shearing courses with a 50% discount whilst you remain a YFC member enabling you to develop your shearing skills.”

British Wool and NFYFC have enjoyed a strong relationship and collaborated on initiatives over the years to help improve industry standards. Both organisations encourage YFC members to improve their shearing technique by attending further training.

NFYFC Chair of Council Drew Bailey said:

More than 700 YFC members have benefited from The British Wool discount over the last seven years and developed their sheep shearing and wool handling skills. NFYFC is proud to be working with British Wool and helping to improve shearing standards.

An important element of our national Sheep Shearing competition is that all competitors must have at least a Blue Seal qualification. YFC members are now able to continue improving their skills as this British Wool offer covers all shearing training, regardless of their experience in the industry.
