We had a very busy December, starting off with our club’s Christmas meal, followed quickly by our charity auction, which also included a pie and pea supper.
We had 72 lots, ranging from homemade goods to agricultural services. With so much support, we managed to raise more than £9,000, which will be split between The Farming Community Network, Rosie’s Corner, Help for Heroes, Hexham Oncology Unit and our club.
We also held our first ever Hexamshire Decorated Tractor Run to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Thirty decorated tractors toured Hexhamshire with Santa following in his tractor. When Santa arrived at our local pub, he read stories to children and gave them a gift. He then got back on his sleigh and stopped to see the children of Hexham while the tractors did a loop of Hexham. We finished in another local pub, where more children enjoyed stories from Santa. The run raised £1,134.70 and we have had incredible feedback and support.
We didn’t end things there! On the Monday and Tuesday after our tractor run we held our annual carol singing nights, where we blessed the local community with our (not very tuneful) singing. This raised more then £700 for charity.
Whitley Chapel YFC love a huge range of competitions. From Stockjudging to Floral Art, we give it our very best.
Our favourite competition is the Performing Arts. Amidst all of the Christmas chaos, we are currently managing to squeeze in regular Pantomime practices for the upcoming competition.
We are a tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone, so we are always keen to support where we live.
Many from the local area came and supported our charity auction and tractor run. Santa read stories to the local children during the tractor run. Every year we also hold our carol singing evenings and a bonfire night.
We had so many ideas for Christmas this year and the majority of them just happened to fall back-to-back over five days in December.
We have an amazing network of helpers, from former members, local people and parents, and we couldn’t have made any of our activities happen without their support.
We are currently still adding up the total amount made for our chosen charities over those past festive four days, but we know it’s more than £10,000.
As we are in a fortunate position to have the facilities and people to host charity events, why not do them?
Completed by Club Chair Connie Henderson and Secretary Anna Hindmarsh.
Whitley Chapel’s festive cheer rang out across their local community in December. From carol singing to a well-thought out Christmas tractor run that included opportunities for children to meet with Santa.
We loved the way their activities celebrated the local community and that everything they did raised funds to continue a legacy of support throughout the year. Well done Whitley Chapel.
