YFC members are invited to take part in a two-part Young Farmers Parliamentary Debate experience on 4 and 11 March.
The programme, titled Can the UK feed the nation through regenerative agriculture, is aimed at giving young people the chance to develop debating confidence, to learn about both conventional and regenerative agriculture, and take part in a mock Parliamentary debate inside the Palace of Westminster.
This is a cross party event, and participants will have the opportunity to meet and engage with Members of Parliament from all political parties.
The first part of the event will be held at Shuttleworth College from 7pm on 4 March, where attendees will hear from Oliver Field, a 4,000 acre conventional farmer and John Cherry, Groundswell co-founder and a leading advocate for regenerative farming.
The session includes:
Organisers say that public speaking skills are not required and YFC members are welcome to attend simply to watch, learn, and support others.
The second part of the event is a debate in parliament on Wednesday 11 March, which starts at 6pm for a pre-debate tour, followed by a mock debate in a formal Parliamentary Committee Room.
Guests will include well-known farmers Olly Harrison and Charlotte Ashley as well as members from both Houses of Parliament from a range of political backgrounds.
Attendees will have the chance to meet MPs from across all parties, regardless of political affiliation.
This is a rare and memorable chance to participate in a structured debate in Parliament and understand the issue from multiple political perspectives.
To register, you must organise YFC members through your designated club ‘leader/organiser’ and follow all the usual safeguarding, planning and group visit procedures.
All under and over 18s must be registered and an official invite will then be emailed to allow access into Parliament.
Please contact Charley Snowdon Office Manager charley.snowdon@parliament.uk and blake.stephenson.mp@parliament.uk for the respective visits with all names, ages and designated ‘group leader’ contact details. This is essential for under 18 participants.
