Stockman of the Year

The competitor must be 28 years of age or under on 1st September 2023 and full members of a Club affiliated to the NFYFC.

Competitors of this national competition final will be required to complete a written project on stock management. The project should be submitted to NFYFC two weeks prior to the date of the final. Competitors will be interviewed on the content of their project. 

Competitors will be questioned by a veterinary surgeon on animal health and husbandry and will be required to demonstrate practical tasks as directed by the veterinary surgeon. Competitors will be required to:

  • Place and give reasons on six beef animals judged as butchers animals 
  • Place and give reasons on six breeding ewes judged for breeding potential
  • Place and give reasons on six butchers pigs judged for slaughter (should access to pigs be limited then it may be necessary to substitute with butchers lambs)
  • Place and give reasons on six dairy animals as productive animals
  • Animals in each ring will be designated A, B, C, X, Y, Z. All rings will operate simultaneously

Competition Details

National Final: Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September 2024 (written project and vet tasks on Saturday, stockjudging on Sunday)

Entries Close: 1 August 2024

Venue: TBC

  • Parental Consent Form for all U18s - Copy returned to NFYFC 10 days prior to event
  • Absentee Form - Completed by County Office to be excused from presentation of awards
  • Additional form of ID
  • White Coat
