Take time to keep connected

Talking to others is a very important part of everyone’s mental health. Establishing and strengthening the positive connections we have keeps us stimulated, feeling valued, understood and loved. It is also time to recognise that harmful relationships can make us unhappy, so we need to find solutions to minimise those connections or resolve the issue if possible.

Be honest 

We have been thrown into a way of life that is alien to us, try and connect with someone who understands you well and be honest with them about how you are feeling. Many friends will be experiencing the same emotions, stresses and anxieties as you, so try and support each other as best you can by sharing the load.

Take the lead 

Be proactive if you have the capacity to do so, some people will be struggling to break through the issues and think of others. You might need to be the one to take the lead and make the call, but it will be easier once you have reached out for the first time and connected with someone.

Share your worries 

It is really important to explore your own thoughts with others and receive the support and encouragements that they can give you. Don’t be afraid to share your worries and concerns and give time to listen to the other person who you are talking to. If you find common ground, you will discover shared solutions for managing anxiety and stress.

Have a laugh 

Have a laugh together. Studies show that anxiety is reduced, stress hormones are lowered in the body and our mental health is greatly improved when we laugh. Make sure your time together moves on from the tough topics to the lighter side of life, grins and giggles!

If you are struggling with your mental health right now, it is essential that you seek help. Talking to someone and explaining how you are feeling could be the first step to feeling better.

If you are feeling stressed, anxious or depressed there are great online resources available to help you manage and improve your mental health.

Don’t suffer in silence with your mental health. There are people ready and willing to help you, to talk to you and to help you to understand what is going on for you right now.

If you feel that you are having a mental health crisis, emergency or breakdown, you need to seek immediate expert advice and assessment.
