Rural Support

During these difficult times, there are still lots of ways that YFCs can support their members and rural communities.

The YFC Rural Support initiative is aimed at helping members stay connected to their communities, their clubs and their own wellbeing during a period of isolation.

We have summarised below the four key areas of the initiative and NFYFC are developing more ideas in these four areas to ensure you can enjoy YFC at home while club meetings can’t take place.

Support your community

Your YFC could support the most vulnerable in your community by getting involved in Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK. Find a group operating in your local area and be part of a nationwide volunteer project. While we’re aware many clubs had set up local initiatives to support their local rural communities, we encourage those to link up to this nationwide group so help for the most vulnerable can be centrally coordinated.

Take care of yourself

Looking after your own mental and physical health during these challenging times is important. There’s support available for those who need to talk to someone and there are loads of ways to stay active while you’re stuck at home.

Stay connected

Coming up with new and creative ways to stay connected to your YFC is important. Using online platforms is a good way to keep in touch with each other and ensure everyone can still enjoy being part of the YFC community.  Think about using conference calling facilities such as Zoom or Skype for online committee meetings or use WhatsApp or other social media tools to host quizzes and fun games online.

Support for farmers

Farms will be feeling the effects of the crisis too. Seasonal labour will be needed from April onwards and YFC members are encouraged to contact NFYFC’s seasonal labour provider HOPS  to offer help with picking and packing British fruit and vegetables in their local area. See more information on how to apply here.

Please share what your YFC is doing during the Covid-19 crisis to stay connected and use #YFCRuralSupport, and tag NFYFC in your posts on social media and/or by emailing media@nfyfc.org.uk.
